On Sunday 11th May, the Uni of Leeds Women’s Cricket Club (UOLWCC) are taking on the Rob Burrows Marathon and Leeds Half Marathon to raise money for Leeds Women’s Aid!

Four of the team will be running the full marathon and nine members will be running the half! Kate, Secretary of UOLWCC, said:

“LeeThe UOLWCC members smiling outside LWA charity shop in LWA tshirtsds Women’s Aid is such an important local charity that provides services for women, children, and families affected by domestic violence and abuse. With any kind donations, Leeds Women’s Aid will be able to continue being able to provide a wide range of vital services, from a 24/7 helpline to long-term, intensive support, including emergency refuge accommodation.

For the majority of the girls this will be their first ever marathon/half marathon & any support and donations for this great cause and challenge would mean so much! We’re so incredibly proud to be part of #TeamLWA and look forward to supporting them over the next few months!”

We also heard from Erin, who is taking on the half marathon:

What inspired you to take on this half marathon for Leeds Women’s Aid?

I’ve been really inspired by the incredible work that Leeds Women’s

Aid does to support those in need. Taking on the Leeds Half Marathon with UOLWCC feels like a meaningful way to give back and help raise funds and awareness for such an important cause. Knowing that my efforts can help make a difference for people going through difficult times has really motivated me to take on this challenge!

How has your training been going? Any highlights or challenges?

Training has been going really well! Right now, I’m focusing on increasing my running distance and helping my body adjust to longer and more intense sessions. The plan I’m following is keeping me on track for success on the 11th May while making sure I have enough time to recover after each run. Highlights of my training so far is being able to track my own progression, running with friends and being able to support the other members of UOLWCC who are also training regularly!

How can people support you?

As a club, we would all be so grateful for any donations towards our big run! However, we understand that not everyone is always able to give and we’d truly appreciate if people can support us by sharing our posts/ stories to raise awareness for the incredible work that Leeds Women’s Aid does!

You can donate to support the UALWCC on their Just Giving page.

A huge thanks from Leeds Women’s Aid to Erin, Kate, Nina, Amelia, Katie, India, Roisin, Lauren, Saskia Shah, Abbie, the two Millies and Holly! We can’t wait to cheer you on and watch you all accomplish this incredible challenge!
