Refuge Relief Worker (*Female)

£12.60 per hour (Variety of shifts).

This role is vital in keeping families and individuals in refuge safe and secure. You will also support people in the community as the first point of contact on our 24-hours helpline. In becoming a Relief Worker with LWA you will be joining a committed team making a real difference. Comprehensive training will be provided to prepare you for this rewarding role.

Leeds Women’s Aid (LWA) is the largest women’s charitable organisation in Leeds and provides services for victims of domestic violence and abuse, honour-based violence, forced marriage, trafficking, stalking and harassment and is the lead agency for two consortiums, Leeds Domestic Violence Service and Women & Girls Alliance Leeds.

We are looking for Relief Workers to cover a variety of shifts, including days, nights and weekends, across our refuges and main office. The successful candidate will help maintain safe and secure refuge accommodation, answer the 24-hours helpline, and respond to individuals and families in our services.

You will need:

• An understanding of Domestic Violence & Abuse and risk and safety issues
• The ability to deal with stressful and difficult situations
•  Values consistent with those of LWA and a commitment to diversity and inclusion.

To remain active, informed and aligned with service needs, Relief Workers are expected to:

• Complete a minimum of two shifts per month, with a mix of day and night availability
• Be open to covering a least one-night shift per month, as night coverage is a key service need
•  Participate in ongoing professional development, including attendance at scheduled training sessions.

The closing date for applications is 9am on  Thursday 27th November 2025 with interviews on Monday 8th December 2025. 

Successful applicants will complete four full days of structured training 19th January to 22nd January 2026, 09:00 – 17:00 each day. This training will follow a series of shadowing shifts across different sites of our service.
