Meet one of our amazing fundraiser Kris, who has chosen to support Leeds Women’s Aid by running the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in May!
We spoke to Kris to find out what motivated him to take on this challenge and how his training and fundraising journey has been going so far.
What inspired you to take on this marathon for Leeds Women’s Aid?
Helping a charity focused on domestic abuse is very important to me. Spreading the word and raising money for Leeds Women’s Aid makes me feel enormously proud to know I might be making even just one person’s life that little bit easier.
How has your training been going? Any highlights or challenges?
Training has been going well so far—my weekly distance is increasing nicely. The biggest challenge is spending hours each week running and missing time with my children, like their bath time and bedtime stories. But I’m meeting new friends within the running community and hitting distances I never thought possible. If you’d asked me a year ago whether I could run a half marathon after work on a Monday night, I’d have said no chance!
How can people support you?
If you can donate, that would be hugely appreciated and will help keep me going on those dark training runs. If you can’t donate, sharing my posts would mean a lot—you never know, one of your friends or family members might not even be aware that a charity like Leeds Women’s Aid exists, and your share could help someone without you even realising.
Good luck for the big day Kris!
