Leeds Women’s Aid (LWA) is committed to its workforce and clients and will make every effort to ensure that everyone at LWA is safe, supported and equipped to undertake their roles and that workplace practices support the wellbeing of employees, volunteers and clients and their families.
Modern slavery is a crime and a violation of fundamental human rights. It takes various forms, all of which have in common the deprivation of a person’s liberty by another to exploit them for personal or commercial gain. Modern slavery is a global phenomenon that is both inter and intra-national, affecting an estimated 45 million people worldwide. There is no typical victim, though it is often more prevalent amongst the most vulnerable, and within minority or excluded groups.
LWA has a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery. We will act ethically and with integrity in all our business dealings and relationships and we will implement and enforce effective systems to ensure that modern slavery is not taking place anywhere in our own charity or in any of our supply chains.
We are committed to ensuring that there is transparency in our work and in our approach to tackling modern slavery throughout our supply chains. Although we are not legally required to have a policy or provide an annual statement, we recognise the value of this for any organisation who formally delivers and contracts others to deliver our services.
We therefore ask for the same high standards from our contractors, suppliers and partners. As part of our contracting processes, we include prohibitions against the use of forced, compulsory or trafficked labour, or anyone held in slavery or servitude, whether adults or children, and we expect and require that our suppliers will hold their own suppliers to the same high standards.
